{Mummy and Me Mondays} The Royal Edition

When I announced to Amelie that the Queen was coming to visit and saw her little eyes light up, I realised that as a mother, I was in the very fortunate and rare position to bring a bit of fairy tale to life.

I decided I would make Amelie her very own coronation style royal cape for the occasion. The cape was surprisingly easy to make and so I'll post a simple tutorial on Our Creative Spaces this Thursday.

She of course loved it and even took a moment to closely inspect the handy work.

The outfit would not be complete without crown, a pair of purple satin gloves and scepter.

Her Majesty was very taken by the gloves.

Unaccustomed to dressing ones self, the cape presented a minor challenge.

Once dressed, we choreographed some royal moves to perform for the loyal subjects if reqested.

And set off to the train station. Unfortunately, I wasn't anticipating the overflowing car parking at the local station and had to park so far away, we may as well have walked. Needless to say, we missed our train. It seems Queensland Rail will wait for no one.

Even the train trip was an adventure. This was Amelie's first time on a "choo choo train" and there was much discussion whether we were in fact on Emily or Thomas (as in the tank engines).

The crowds came in their thousands. Word had obviously got out that there would be more than one royal attending.

Amelie noted "His cape like mine, Mummy!" ("He" being the Lord Major)

"The Queen was in the parlour on the cultural forecourt eating bread rice cakes and honey Vegemite"

The excitement was building.

Even the (gigantic) teddies were in attendance?!

Her Majesty does not like to disappoint her loyal subjects and so posed for photographs.

Then the moment finally arrived when the real Queen arrived, and there was much excitement in the air.

Everyone scrambled for the best position to hopefully steal a glimpse. Some found themselves in the best possible vantage point.

Amelie loved seeing all the officials.

She thought the SES were Fire Men and Women and that was very exciting. "Where their hats, Mum? Where their truck, Mum?

And then all of a sudden, as if by magic, Amelie found herself in the middle of one of her fairy tale stories, a meeting...well a wave at least from the Queen.

If you look closely (it may help to squint) you will see a white gloved hand waving, obviously directly at us.

And then it was time to look for that bear..who I think may have just stolen a bit of the lime light.

I loved today. We had a fabulous adventure.

As adults we may think buying a train ticket and boarding a train, counting the stairs, meeting police men, patting the police dogs, waving a flag, hugging a gigantic mascot teddy bear, seeing TV cameras, seeing a Queen arrive on a boat and personally receiving a wave from the Queen herself are small things, but to some, they can amount to one epic fairy tale adventure.
