We could blame not seeing the new year in on our children, but I'll be honest, I like going to bed early on new years eve and starting the new year feeling fresh and full of energy.
This year a lot of our friends were away on holidays, so we had a low key, family friendly new years. It was perfect actually.
The girls played happily together with all of Amelie's new toys from Christmas and had a fantastic time dismanteling and then eating the gingerbread house my friend had lovingly put together for her daughter (a new tradition for her) for Christmas. The gingerbread receipe is the same as this one here - delicious! The figurines are ones my friend's parents have kept from her childhood - they're from her brother's Hexen House (Witch's House) which he brought home from Germany when he visited there as a boy about 30 years ago.
Once the girls were in bed. We enjoyed eating a whole snapper baked in our new big oven, some fresh seafood, crisp white wine followed by chocolate self saucing pudding (one of only 3 desserts/sweet things my husband will eat - the other two are rasberry friands and strawberry tarts or Tarte Aux Fraises if you want to get fancy from Le Bon Choix - he's not a dessert snob, he just doesn't have a sweet tooth) on our lovely big new deck on a hot summers night - bliss!
We were tucked up in bed by 11pm.
Happy New Year! xo
