well except for a Daddy very noisily making a toy kitchen and a Mummy baking sweets for a Nutcracker themed 'Land of Sweets' dessert table for Christmas lunch..
After a hectic day on Christmas Eve, running around making last minute preparations for hosting Christmas at our place, having moved into our new house a week earlier, we were already exhausted when we put Amelie to bed at 7pm, only to find ourselves at the beginning of a long night of working on our respective pre-Christmas projects.
I was all pumped and excited having had one of those rare days were everything falls into place for you (got every green light, missed the crowds and cues at the grocery store, fruit and veg shop and fish markets, scored a fresh 'off the trawler' red emperor, last minute presents just presented themselves in front of me at discounted prices, experienced early savings of up to 75% off last minute Christmas wares) so actually enjoyed the process of baking while sipping a glass of wine and following our little Christmas Eve tradition of watching 'Love Actually'.
Justin on the other hand, had underestimated the process involved in putting together Amelie's major Christmas present - a toy kitchen. An hour into the process when asked how he was going, I got a mumbled response about being up to step 5 of 40! Needless to say, the kitchen was finished at 11.45pm and the long night was all made worthwhile to see Amelie's little face light up when she first spotted her kitchen on the deck on Christmas morning.
This is what step 41 of a 40 step process looks like in making a toy kitchen...with only one small alan key..and a glass of wine...and a box of BBQ Shapes for assistance.
But this makes it all worthwhile...who knew the plastic fruit and veggies would also be equally as exciting!
And straight to work, cooking up a feast with the assistance of sous chefs: 'Ballerina Jemima' and a hand knitted 'Iggle Piggle'.
