A world of make-believe

A dear friend sent me a link to the Monkeytail & Wellington website knowing that I would absolutely love this little treasure of a gift idea for my little girl. Seeing the picture of the little girl trying to unlock the magical fairy door took me back to my childhood.

Being the youngest of 5, I was fortunate enough to grow up with big sisters and brothers who took much delight in perpetuating a wonderful land of makebelieve for me. 

On my bedside table there would be 50c or $1 (for molars) along with tiny footprints left in icing sugar in the place where my tooth had been left in a glass of milk from the night before.

There would be special 'excursions' to the show for my dolls and stuffed animals which involved my sisters pegging my dolls and fluffy animals to the hillshoist as a 'merry go round' and putting them in the dryer as the 'gravatron' (it was less trumatic for the fluffies than it sounds).

We had a cuby-house made of walls of grocery boxes in the family room for a number years that housed my mini oven, ironing board and dolls bed.

I use to set up 'an office' at the door of the long hallway in our house and insisted on stamping (with my Mr Man stamp set) everyone's 'passports' before the entered the hallway (usually to go to the bathroom or their bedroom). My sisters hosted the most wonderful birthday parties for me.

I still remember some of my favourites: a Halloween inspired party which included a blind folded trip into the 'haunted house' (aka our long hallway) where you would dip your hands in the 'eye ball soup' (a bowl of jelly and ping balls); a teddy bears picnic party where there was a prize for the 'best dressed teddy'...hmm this gets me thinking of my 'party theme bucket list' for little Amelie.

I hope a doorway to fairyland in Amelie's room will inspire her imagination and create wonderful childhood memories that she will cherish a lifetime.
